ALPHA INTRODUCES OUTDOOR UPS POWER SYSTEM

Bellingham, Wash., January 25, 1999 - Alpha Technologies announces the Novus-XT, an AC Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) designed to backup outside plant communication applications. This outdoor power system has been designed specifically for powering cellular, microcell and picocell stations.

Each Novus-XT power system is comprised of three primary components: a durable, weather resistant, outdoor enclosure, the power module and long-life batteries.

A unique intelligent boost feature allows the Novus-XT to operate from the AC utility line and supply stable output, even when amplitudes fluctuate. The new system provides the clean, reliable, uninterrupted power needed by today's communication systems. Simple and flexible installation allows the option of either pole or pedestal mounting the unit.

The Novus-XT provides critical AC backup power during utility power outages. During operation it provides protection from surges and spikes, which commonly occur on the utility power line. This new power system provides up to 12 hours of backup power, and benefits from Alpha's more than 20 years of outside plant powering experience.

Hot swappable batteries are used to ensure quick and easy battery replacement. Temperature compensated battery charging prolongs the life of the battery
