ALPHA TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES WEB BASED NETWORK MANAGEMENT

Bellingham, Wash., May 28, 1998 - Alpha Technologies, world leading manufacturer of cable television and broadband power supplies, has introduced Statusphere, the industry’s first Web Based Network Management program for outside plant powering systems.

Statusphere enables communication service providers to use standard Web browsers to manage critical network power. This open standards approach eliminates the need for dedicated headend controllers, combiners, and proprietary monitoring software.

By leveraging investment in subscriber based internet access, operators can now use industry standard Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and Web browser software to remotely alarm and view Alpha power system status – in most cases without any additional headend equipment.

This breakthrough in status monitoring not only improves the quality and comprehension of status information, but it also reduces the overall costs to cable operators for power supply monitoring. Web based graphical images of the power supply are broadcast directly from the power supply to the Web browser, along with major-minor alarm status and help desk information.
