Alpha Technologies Announces New Cable TV Power Supply
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bellingham, Wash., -- January 15, 1998 -- Power supply manufacturer Alpha Technologies Inc. announces the latest addition to its CableUPS offering the new XM Series 2 Cable TV uninterruptible power supply.

The XM Series has earned the trust of Cable TV operators around the world. The new XM Series 2 builds on this success while incorporating industry leading technology and operating improvements. Typical models provide 120-Volt and 240-Volt, 60Hz and 50Hz operation with 60-Volt or 60/75/90-Volt tap selectable outputs.

The XM Series 2 incorporates many new standard features, some of which were optional on previous models. New standard features include: 100% front access to test points and all connections, lower inrush currents and higher output power capability; Standby Data Display (SDD) a counter which keeps track of the number of inverter operations and total inverter elapsed time; Automatic Performance Monitoring (APM) - a self-test mode programmed to automatically test the operation of the inverter and batteries at a regular interval without interrupting power to the system; and Standby Status Relay (SSR), a form C contact used for reporting critical system status.

New options for the XM Series 2 include: dual outputs with a programmable breaker for isolation between outputs; the CFR Transformer model ñ a model that reduces audible noise, lowers the operating temperature and increases the operating efficiency; and an Automatic Tap Switch (ATS) which increases the input AC operating voltage from ±15% to ±30%.

The XM Series 2 can also be equipped with built-in generator compatibility, flexible system control and advanced status monitoring options. These features support easy migration to centralized node powering, while reducing the overall enclosure size to power ratio.

Additional features include an automated display of key operational parameters, including: input voltage, output voltage and current, battery voltage, charger mode and current, output VA, output watts, load percentage, input frequency and a comprehensive list of associated alarms if any condition jeopardizes proper operation. In addition, the XM Series 2 will display suggested troubleshooting hints under alarm conditions.
