ALPHA TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES NEW FIBER POWER SYSTEMS

Bellingham, Wash., May 15, 1998 - Power supply manufacturer Alpha Technologies has introduced the RADUIM line – Fiber Power Systems specifically engineered to provide outside plant powering for fiber-fed communications networks. Scalability and flexibility are the cornerstones that allow this power system’s deployment in a wide variety of applications. RADIUM design benefits from Alpha’s 20 years of outside plant communication powering experience.

Fully scalable from 200 to 3000 Watts and housed in sealed, GR-487 class, 125 mill aerial or ground-mount enclosures, RADIUM Fiber Power Systems represent industry leading power design. The fully sealed enclosure ensures the integrity of system components throughout their service life.

RADIUM Fiber Power Systems are network powering solutions that serve two vital functions in fiber-deployed architectures: to provide regulated, fully redundant -48Vdc power for all functions within a Remote Terminal (RT), and -130Vdc power for Optical Network Units (ONU). RADIUM systems provide eight hours of backup time via batteries. Optional generator integration provides longer runtime capability to the system.

RADIUM Fiber Power Systems incorporate redundant rectifiers at the input and N+1 DC-DC converters at the output. The total useable rectifier load is 1650 Watts, or approximately 1500 Watts at the DC-DC converter outputs, supporting a peak load of up to 6 ONUs at 250 Watts each. Each DC-DC converter is rated to carry a 100 Watt load.
