ALPHA TECHNOLOGIES OFFERS TOTAL HEADEND POWER PROTECTION

Bellingham, Wash., June 12, 1998 - Power supply manufacturer Alpha Technologies has introduced two new uninterruptible power supplies for headend power protection. Alpha’s 1400 Series Single-Phase UPS and 4100 Series 3-Phase UPS offer efficient power conditioning and protection for all sensitive headend electronics.

Both the 1400 Series and 4100 Series UPS incorporate dual conversion technology that provides total power conditioning regardless of the quality of the utility or generator input power.

Alpha’s 1400 Series protects sensitive loads from 1.5KVA to 18KVA and is available in compact 3RU, rackmount or minimum footprint stand-alone designs. The 1400 Series topology has a “walk-in” transfer feature which provides compatibility with most existing generators, even when sized near generator capacity. The walk-in feature also provides an upgrade path to add a second UPS which can run on the same generator should the headend load grow beyond the first UPS unit’s capacity. Internal static bypass provides redundancy in the event of overload or fault.

Alpha’s 3-Phase UPS, the 4100 Series, is available in output power ratings of 25KVA to 100KVA. It’s unique “active front end” design provides total input power factor correction, utility cost savings and compatibility with most existing headend generators, including those with mechanical governors running at near capacity. The 4100 Series maximizes UPS power capacity while maintaining compatibility with the existing generator. An internal static bypass provides redundancy in the event of fault or overload. Internal battery units reduce the footprint for easy installation.
