Alpha Expands the FlexNet Family of Standby Powering Solutions

Bellingham, Wash., September 13, 2006 - Alpha Technologies, Inc., recently announced the launch of the FlexNet MPS family of 50 Watt 48VDC battery backup powering solutions. The FlexNet MPS is ideal for powering critical communication applications including deep fiber Optical Network Terminals (ONT's)--located at the home, small office or home office (SOHO)--wireless access points, cellular backhaul and many other telecommunication applications.

"Everyday it seems, you can read about a situation where standby power is needed: a hurricane, tornado, power shortage or power-grid failure," said Scott Hopper, Product Manager for Alpha. "The FlexNet MPS family provides network operators the ability to offer reliable cost-effective standby power for city-wide Wi-Fi Hot-Zones, assuting critical response teams are informed, coordinated and available during natural and man-made disasters."

The FlexNet MPS is environmentally hardened and is housed in a small, wall or pole mount weather-resistant and aesthetically pleasing aluminum enclodure. It is supported with a full set of option components including standard and long life batteries, battery heaters for installations in cold climates, and a variety of AC input options. The MPS50-48F features an interface module supporting fiber to the premise or curb (FTTp/FTTc) applications. The MPS50-48T features an interface module supporting dry contact alarms.

The FlexNet MPS's input is powered from 120, 240 or 277VAC with optional step-down transformer. A 48VDC string of standard 7.2Ah maintenance-free selaed lead acid batteries provide standby power. The onboard microprocessor monitors and controls critical functions including temperature-compensated battery charge management, periodic battery capacity testing, as well as local and remote status reporting providing higher service availability.
