Alpha Offers VoIP Headend Power Protection
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bellingham, Wash., May 26, 2005 - Power system provider Alpha Technologies, will be highlighting its AC and DC Cable Headend power solutions, at the 2005 Cable-Tec Expo in San Antonio (June15-17).
Featured in a simulation of a typical Cable Headend, Alpha will demonstrate both single and three phase UPS’, Cordex DC Plants, controllers and batteries. These are all key elements in making a Headend installation VoIP ready.
“Headend plants are becoming increasingly more sophisticated and require additional backup power protection in order to provide VoIP services,” commented Greg Zediker, Alpha Technologies Director Headend Sales. Also stating, “Alpha is proud to offer proven, reliable power products for every facet of a headend.”
The 1600EP Series UPS protects sensitive loads from 3.6kVA to 18kVA and is available in tower configurations. This UPS is designed for headends, hub sites and OTN applications where a compact footprint and high power density is required. Features include hot swappable batteries, slide-out battery trays, external battery connector for extended runtimes and optional modular receptacle panel and Internal SNMP/web browser interface.
Alpha’s three phase offering provides complete powering protection with sizes ranging from 10kVA to 800 kVA. The AlphaSource Series offers the advantages of a centralized power source – minimum space requirement and reduced maintenance compared to multiple small UPS modules. True online topology provides complete isolation and correction from utility power problems. Packaged in a space-saving footprint complete with maintenance bypass, harmonic elimination input filter and AC distribution options available to suit any user.
Complementing the AC UPS’s, Alpha’s DC power plants utilize Cordex Series rectifiers to increase power density, allowing a plant to be DC powered when VoIP is implemented. DC power systems provide highly reliable DC power for large communication applications; combined with the Cordex Series controller allows complete control over the entire power system.
Alpha’s Headend battery offering includes three distinct types of battery models for the cable and telecommunication industries. 20-year long life batteries, 10-year telecom front and top terminal and flame retardant UPS batteries.
These batteries provide enhanced thermal performance, longer runtimes and extended service life. The front terminal models allow for easier access to the batteries during installation and routine maintenance visits. Alpha’s Headend batteries are ideal for cellular, electric utility, PCS, customer premise, long distance, broadband and distributed power including headend and hub sites.
