ALPHA 'S SLOANE APPOINTED AS AN SCTE INT'L AMBASSADOR FOR EUROPE

Bellingham, Wash., April 11, 2001 - Alpha’s Managing Director of European Operations, Thomas Sloane, has been appointed as a Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineer (SCTE) International Ambassador for Europe. This Ambassadorship is designed to help extend SCTE’s reach to technical professionals around the world.

This is a great honor for both Dr. Sloane and Alpha, and recognizes a commitment to further educate and train people in the cable industry about the industry and related technical issues. His responsibilities will include promoting the need for training and introducing SCTE resources to technical professionals to help unite the international broadband industry. Sloane’s first assignment will be hosting the International Breakfast on Wednesday, May 9 at 7:00 am at Cable-Tec Expo at the Orange County Convention Center, room 205C.

Sloane has been with Alpha for several years, working in a variety of capacities from principal engineer to Vice President of Corporate Technology. His current role is Managing Director of European Operations, where he has been tasked with growing and supporting the business in this critical region of the world. He has had more than 30 articles published and currently serves as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics.

Sloane received both his Ph.D and MSEE from Duke University, and was twice named Professor of the Year at the University of Washington.
