ALPHA POWERNODE INSTALLATIONS SURVIVE VIOLENT EARTHQUAKES

Bellingham, Wash., March 7, 2001 - Nearly a dozen Alpha Powernodes located approximately 30 miles from the epicenter of the recent earthquake in the Pacific Northwest survived undamaged and fully operational, according to company officials.

The day following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake, detailed, on-site inspections revealed no structural or other damage to the broadband powernode installations that are scheduled to go on-line next week. These installations will provide critical network power to a state-of-the-art HFC broadband network in the final stages of deployment in the region.

Hundreds of additional Alpha power installations throughout the extended region performed equally as well during the recent earthquake, keeping communication systems and emergency response networks up and operational.

Alpha attributes much of the systems’ survival to the rugged, robust design of both its power electronics and enclosure systems. This, coupled with the contracted installation services provided by the company’s Field Power Services group allowed these important installations to survive the otherwise potentially damaging outcome.
