Alpha Introduces AlphaLight Powering Systems for Deep Fiber
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bellingham, Wash., April 22, 2003 - Power system manufacturer Alpha Technologies introduces AlphaLight™, power for deep fiber application, providing cost effective fiber powering solutions for business, residential and optical transition nodes. Alpha’s power supplies are designed to provide clean, reliable and uninterrupted battery back up power to optical network interface devices (NID) and optical amplifiers.

“Our industry is entering an exciting new phase. Deep fiber deployment is becoming more common. Providing reliable power to each active element in a deep fiber network is essential, particularly when primary line phone service is involved. Alpha is committed to providing effective solutions to this evolving market,” commented Rob Anderson, Alpha Technologies’ Director of Product Management.

Alpha’s products power the three optical network architectures that have emerged: premise, curb and centralized.

Premise Power – The AlphaPoint Series is a network interface unit power supply that is collocated with the optical network interface device (NID), either inside or outside the house. Key features include; 12 VDC of power, up to 14 hours of extended battery backup power during utility service interruption, built-in surge protection and a hot-swappable battery so critical loads are maintained during battery replacement.

Curb Power – The ELH power supply delivers power to eight optical NID’s through individual twisted pair, existing COAX or combination fiber/twisted pair. Features for the 48 VDC ELH include; temperature compensated battery charging for extended battery life, visual and electrical indicators for on-site or remote reporting, flexible cabinet mounting options and a single battery provides hours of backup power with up to a 100 Watt load.

Network Power – The field proven XM2 can provide reliable AC network backup power to subscriber located devices (NIU, NID) in a one-to-many configuration in both RF and non-RF coaxial cable distribution networks. Supporting equipment requiring large DC power field requirements can use the Radium Minibay OTN. This unit is fully scalable to 4000 Watts and 840 Amp hours of battery capacity. Features include 19" or 23" equipment rails and rugged outdoor NEMA 3R and up to NEMA 4x.
