Alpha Technologies Wins CT Readers' Choice Award
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bellingham, Wash., July 2, 2004 - Alpha Technologies’ Embedded DOCSIS Transponder has been honored with Communications Technology’s annual Readers’ Choice Award.

“Cable-Tec Expo attendees were very impressed with this year’s round of Readers’ Choice finalists, with a record number of broadband professionals casting votes,” said Jerry Gunderson, publisher of Communications Technology. “The competition was stiff, and the winners in each category exemplify the best new technologies our industry has to offer. Communications Technology congratulates all winners and commends the top-notch products that competed as finalists.”

This year’s Outside Plant category included some very impressive products designed for the Broadband industry. Alpha’s DOCSIS Power Monitor ran against a strand-mount network hub and a wireless bypass strand-mount unit.

“We were very pleased with the attention our Embedded DOCSIS product line received at this year’s Cable-Tec expo in Orlando. Winning this award is both an honor, and a resounding endorsement for our DOCSIS development team and their efforts over the last two years,” commented Warren Johnson Alpha Technologies’ President and Chief Operating Officer, adding, “based on the overall interest we have received, we are equally exited about the potential for our DOCSIS solutions to become the system of choice in future network monitoring upgrades and new builds.”

Alpha’s Embedded DOCSIS Transponder provides cable operators with the ability to access vital system information over existing DOCSIS infrastructure, which is fast becoming a hallmark of DOCSIS - now being widely applied to HFC element management activities throughout North America.

Features of the Embedded Transponder include; compatibility with ANSI/SCTE HMS standards, one transponder for up to six power supplies (plus generator system), and rugged outside plant design.

Alpha’s Digital Embedded DOCSIS Transponder enables transponder data to be transmitted to a management system over the network’s DOCSIS cable modem channels through the existing CMTS. Bandwidth utilization is minimized through the use of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) messaging.
