ALPHA INTRODUCES NEW MULTI-DWELLING UNIT POWER SUPPLY

Bellingham, Wash., May 8, 2001 - Power system manufacturer Alpha Technologies announces a new Multi Dwelling Unit (MDU) Step-Down Power Supply. The MDU has been specifically designed to provide a tightly regulated 60 Volt output from a coaxial input voltage range between 67VAC and 90VAC.

The MDU is a strand mount power supply that allows MSOs to utilize 90V powering, allowed within the public right-of-way, and also comply with NEC limitation of 60V powering within Multi Dwelling Units. The 60 VAC powering requirement allows compliance with existing NEC code and the RF section is designed to provide minimal losses.

Alpha’s new MDU incorporates several technological features including; fully integrated RF passing 90V to 60V power supply, switch-mode technology, input surge protection, automatic bypass (90V), intelligent overload protection and reverse connection protection. The enclosure is water-tight and designed for wall, pole or strand-mount installations. Major benefits of the MDU include compliance with NEC and local code regulation, as well as simple coaxial connection to existing cable plants.Broadband powering at this years Cable-Tec Expo 2001 in Orlando, Florida.

Alpha representatives will be discussing “Critical Powering for Home, Plant and Headend”. This presentation supports the SCTE’s ongoing commitment to provide training and certification to its members and the industry at large. Alpha’s presentation is one of many included on this year’s Expo program.

This technical session will be held on Thursday, May 10th at 4:00pm in room 1 at this year’s Cable-Tec Expo and is open to all full show / session attendees. Alpha staff will also be available at Alpha booth #1258 to discuss this and other power related issues.
