ALPHA ANNOUNCES NEW CUSTOMER PREMISE POWER SUPPLY

Bellingham, Wash., June 11, 2001 - Power supply manufacturer Alpha Technologies expands its broadband backup power offering to include the AlphaPoint UPS Series. AlphaPoint is designed to provide local (at the home) power for the Network Interface Unit (NIU) or Multimedia Terminal Adapter (MTA).

The AlphaPoint power solution provides cable telephony, wireless local loop (WLL) and fiber to the home (FTTH) services a simple, cost effective, local power supply for the Customer Premise Equipment (CPE). This power supply provides 15 watt, 48 volts of power with an internal battery capable of more than 8 hours of backup in the event of a local power failure.

There are several technological advantages that make the AlphaPoint the most advanced power supply of its kind. Telemetry communicating signals provide up to the minute battery status and alert the status monitoring system when a power outage has occurred or when the battery needs replacement.

An advanced battery charging system ensures the battery is never overcharged or undercharged to help ensure optimal battery life. The batteries are hot swappable and user replaceable. This eliminates the need for factory service and critical loads are continually powered and never dropped.

By locating the system indoors, battery life is extended and can provide up to 14 hours of backup power when utility power fails. “Fast Connects” have been installed on the unit for improved installation quality and speed. Surge protection equipment guards against power disturbances on the utility line and safeguards equipment.

Additional features for the AlphaPoint include compatibility with existing network systems, keyholes for easy wall-mounting, and attractive packaging allowing it to be installed almost anywhere. Extended runtime capabilities for this power supply keep network communications, including telephone, up and running during extended power disturbances and outages.
