ALPHA INTRODUCES NEW PORTABLE GENERATOR SYSTEM

Bellingham, Wash., June 25, 2001 - Power system manufacturer Alpha Technologies has expanded its generator family to include a new Portable 3.0kW DC generator. This new compact, lightweight AlphaGen generator is designed specifically for powering remote cable television, telecommunications and broadband applications that do not include integrated generators as a primary component of the power system.

The new portable generator incorporates several technological advantages including; lightweight design (85 lbs.), 36 or 48V dual selectable voltage output based on Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG) technology, 3000 Watts of power, an oversized fuel tank for up to 11 hours of runtime and a remote voltage sense for automatic cable length compensation. An additional feature is a front panel inclusive of a voltmeter, current meter, hour meter, and keyed selector switches.

There are several key benefits of the portable generator that make it an invaluable addition to the current AlphaGen product offering. The generator’s DC output allows operators to connect directly to the power supply’s battery string without disturbing utility power connection. It is also less prone to theft and easier to handle than traditional AC portable generators currently being used in the cable TV industry. Since the generator is only 85 lbs. and compact in design, a single person can easily transport the unit.

The Permanent Magnetic Generator technology allows for a lightweight, variable speed alternator with a rectified DC output for improved efficiency and lower audible noise level. The generator controller utilizes remote sense wires to measure voltage at the battery bus for output voltage compensation and improved voltage regulation.
