Alpha Provides Power When All Turns Black
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bellingham, Wash., September 17, 2003 - Leading cable television and UPS power system provider, Alpha Technologies, kept the power running after the N.E. United State’s August 14 blackout.

The Monday after the blackout, a major utility feeder failed in Connecticut affecting a local cable television system. This system had previously deployed Alpha’s natural gas powered AlphaGen™ powernodes, to provide extended backup time for voice services. When the power went out, all 36 Alpha generators were called upon, and provided power for many hours, keeping the voice networks operational until utility power was restored.

“When the main trunk went down our critical voice services remained up and running, far exceeding typical duration of battery backup times. This is because we installed generator backup power systems for just these kinds of emergencies. Needless to say we were very pleased with how the AlphaGen™ systems performed,” commented Alan Gardiner Vice President Network Services for Cox Communications.

In addition, Alpha’s range of AC UPS systems – Pinnacle, ALI and CFR – provided peace of mind and kept systems running in thousands of critical indoor communication applications throughout affected areas.
