Alpha Introduces Flexpoint Outdoor Residential UPS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bellingham, Wash., October 1, 2003 - Power system provider Alpha Technologies, introduces the FlexPoint™ Series UPS powering system, providing power to Network Interface Devices for residences and multiple dwelling units (MDU’s). The FlexPoint™ Series is a flexible, modular system providing total or partial outdoor powering solutions for fiber applications.

The FlexPoint™ is a simple, cost-effective local power solution for Customer Premise Equipment (CPE), providing power for fiber to the home (FTTH), cable telephony, video and data services. FlexPoint™ incorporates outdoor power modules and batteries, allowing easy access for servicing technicians 24/7. Additional benefits include; no conduit required because only low, safe voltages are distributed, optional long life replaceable batteries. This modular building block system allows for customized installations and is available in 18 or 30Watt versions.

This powering system consists of a Power-Ring, Power-Ring Converter, Home Converter and Battery Module.

The Power-Ring, is an electrical utility meter base extender providing a gap between the electrical meter and meter base so the Power-Ring Converter can tap the electrical utility power.

The Power-Ring Converter is a modular power converter that slides into the outdoor located Power-Ring and converts the 240VAC at the meter to a nominal 12VDC that feeds either the outdoor battery module or the subscriber’s NID directly.

The Home Converter is a power converter located indoors at the subscriber’s home and plugs into a standard AC utility outlet and converts the AC voltage to a nominal 12VDC. The home converter is used instead of the Power-Ring – converter combination.

Battery Modules are available in 18 or 30Watts. The 18Watt module is a small plastic clamshell UPS battery module using a 7.2AH battery, typically located outdoors on the subscriber’s residence. The 30Watt module is a mid-sized plastic clamshell UPS battery module that uses a 17AH battery and is also typically located outdoors on the subscriber’s residence.
