Jackson Energy Authority to Deploy New FTTH Powering Solutions from Alpha Technologies
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bellingham, Wash., July 31, 2003 - Power system manufacturer Alpha Technologies, announces Jackson Energy Authority, Jackson Tennessee has selected Alpha Technologies as it’s powering solutions partner for its upcoming Fiber-to-the-Home Network deployment in the Jackson, Tennessee area. Jackson Energy Authority (JEA) plans to build the Network and rollout Voice, Video and Data to approximately 10,000 residential and business customers within the next 18 months.

“Alpha has been working closely with the Jackson Energy Authority to develop a customized solution for their powering architecture needs,” commented Mark Ericson, Alpha Technologies East Central Regional Sales Director. “This type of team effort and Alpha’s commitment to continually push the technology envelop on designing new power products for emerging markets has made this venture possible.”

Alpha Technologies has completed many new designs of Power Conditioning and Power UPS products to suit the many evolving applications of Fiber-to-the-Home Network Access requirements. As the Fiber Optic Network brings the fiber deeper and closer to the subscriber, the requirement for active components in the field declines while the need to power the premises-based Network Interface Devices increases. Additionally, new field requirements surface to collocate and power the Access devices located in the network. Alpha has designed several DC products and enclosure products to meet these requirements.

Specific to the Jackson Energy Authority project is an externally mounted residential power supply solution that connects to the electrical power meter and interfaces with a range of Network Interface Device solutions in both single-family and multi-dwelling units.

"We have studied many powering alternatives over the past two years and are confident we have chosen the right product and company for the job,” said Kim Kersey, Sr. Vice President of Communications for Jackson Energy Authority. “Alpha Technologies’ unique external premise powering solutions and customized network powering solutions, coupled with its flexibility and industry expertise makes Alpha Technologies the optimal powering partner for us.”

Jackson Energy Authority currently provides water, wastewater, gas, and electricity to more than 38,000 customers in Jackson and Madison County, Tennessee. JEA is among a growing number of progressive utility companies who recognize that broadband development is critical to enhancing economic growth. Their broadband network will offer a very robust bandwidth technology for all sectors of the local economy – small and large businesses, prospective and existing industry, healthcare and education, and many more as they work to succeed in the “new information economy”.
