As more and more cable network operators expand their service offering to include voice, data, wireless and video, there is a renewed focus on extending the life of existing outside plant powering infrastructures with preventative maintenance and updates. To serve this need and help provide these expanded broadband services to customers around the world, Alpha Technologies Services (ATS) is constantly working to develop service and support options that combine network hardware updates with the necessary manpower to install the hardware. Our goal is to provide these services in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.

A recent project in the Philadelphia area involved a longtime Alpha customer who was expanding its broadband services, and wanted to update the existing Alpha powering network to support these additional services.

This project involved the installation of more than 1300 Alpha “Top Hat” battery expansion cabinets, the installation of 8316 new batteries, and the replacement of the enclosure doors to accomodate the “Top Hat” cabinet. ATS technicians also performed preventative maintenance on every installation. The entire project, including the opening and closing of a temporary storage warehouse, was completed in less than four months, with more than 6450 batteries and 1600 pole mount enclosure doors being sent for recycling.

In June 2007, we expanded our network of field services and depot repair facilities with a new location in Dallas, TX. Along with our existing service depots in Bellingham, WA and Atlanta, GA, the Texas facility helps reduce the cost and time of shipping and regional transit associated with heavy power systems equipment. It also provides a regional base for equipment installation, depot repair, on-site calibration and field services, as well as expanded services such as large scale project planning of power systems like this Philadelphia project.

To continue our success in 2008, new ventures for ATS include developing more preventative maintenance programs consisting of regular visits to the site. We will continue our efforts to expand our services regionally and nationwide, to make ourselves a valuable long-term partner in the installation of new systems, and maintenance and updates to get the most from existing communications networks.
