Services not just for Power
Mark Beckley
The Alpha Group is recognized worldwide for supplying powering solutions products for many different markets. As the relationships develop, we have opportunities to use our Alpha Technologies Services (ATS) for requirements other than power installations. Argus recently worked with AT&T Mobility (AT&TM) for solar panel replacement in Hawaii and the decommissioning of cell sites in Colorado.
On the big island of Hawaii, AT&TM had an existing mountaintop solar installation where the solar panels needed to be replaced and repositioned. We contracted Alamon Telco from Kalispell, Montana to do the work. Alamon sent a crew of four who completed the job within a week. When you think about a trip to Hawaii, it usually involves long sandy beaches and sunny 80 degree weather; this crew wasn’t so lucky. The Iolehaehae site was very difficult to get to and the crew had to camp out at a bunkhouse and cook shack for a week in sustained 30-mile winds and rain the entire time. The crew replaced a total of 36 panels at ground level and 12 above the building. When fully operational, the output of the new system was measured at 7800 Watts, compared to an output of 5520 Watts with the old system. AT&TM was very pleased with the improved performance and quality of work.
In Colorado, AT&TM had recently purchased sites from Edge Wireless. We worked with the real estate group in Denver and again contracted Alamon to remove the Ericsson equipment from 16 sites in Montana, Wyoming and Colorado and to deliver the equipment to an AT&TM warehouse in Denver. Aside from a few unexpected problems in two of the sites, the work was completed in two weeks.
We are continuing to look for new opportunities with our customers. Within the Argus sales group we have talked about how we have obtained the work. Our motto is now “I asked”.
