This year’s SCTE Emerging Technologies conference covered four main subjects: Advanced Advertising Technology, Cable 3.0, Rapid Application Delivery/Service Quality Management and, most pertinent to Alpha’s core business, Cable’s Evolution to the Hyperconnected Network.

Industry experts believe the number of networked devices in the home will expand at near-exponential rates. As this expansion continues, increased bandwidth to the home is required, which will continue the trend of node segmentations and eventual fiber-to-the-curb or house (FTTh). On the opposite end of this network, Headends must become much larger and ultimately look more like Data Centers.

How does this impact The Alpha Group? Node segmentations require more XM2-like power supplies and longer runtime AlphaCell™ batteries. Deep fiber and FTTh growth is supported by our small-wattage FlexPoint power solutions and Headend growth is served by our diverse line of 48Vdc plants, three phase AC UPS, large generators and turn key services.

In addition to the technical conferences and roundtables, this event was a great opportunity for networking, and we were able to secure senior level meetings with several key MSO’s.

Every year, the Emerging Technologies event offers insight into the trends and actions of competitors, industry partners and, most importantly, our customers. The topics and conclusions of the industry experts did not come as a surprise, yet reinforced our efforts to meet and exceed new network powering needs as quickly as they develop.
