In Asia, Alpha is breaking new ground through its association with local system integrator Corecomm, based in Seoul, South Korea.

Alpha’s engineering team, led by Chris Ostrowski, is working with Corecomm to develop a unique enclosure that mounts on thin concrete poles used extensively throughout the region. The enclosure allows an XM2 915E and contains three 33Ah batteries, meeting the customer’s runtime requirements.

The newly designed Alpha APX2G non-standby power supply was launched in June. The APX’s specialized enclosure design decreases flux and subsequent noise. Product development was driven by requirements from Europe and Hong Kong cable customers. In Hong Kong, Alpha is assisting the region’s largest cable operator, with its VoIP roll out by providing APX2G’s to replace poorly performing units from a competitor. Alpha is also providing a unique transfer switch specifically designed for monthly utility maintenance in the large apartment buildings that dominate the spectacular skyline of Hong Kong.

Europe has also proved to be an exciting market for Alpha over the last 18 months. There have been many power outages in previously secure electricity countries such as Sweden, Italy and Austria. Broadband operators were negatively affected in these blackouts resulting in renewed interest and investment in backing up their critical communication networks.

Alphatec Baltics has hired two new employees, Eugenijus Dilys as Sales Manager and Tomas Lukosevicius as Applications Engineer. The expanded team is off and running to grow market share in the Baltics’ AC UPS market which recently included Alphatec’s first sales to Latvia and Moldova.

There are many exciting developments in the Latin American and Caribbean cable markets, including the consolidation of the Mexican cable service providers and cable network upgrades in Jamaica. The hottest markets of the year have been in the Southern Cone of South America, specifically in Argentina and Chile, where network upgrades for key operators have been dynamic. Alpha is also seeing increased interest for transponders in the region and has recorded its first DOCSIS transponder sale in Mexico.
