Alpha debuted its enhanced AlphaCell battery product line at the 2005 SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in San Antonio, Texas. The additions included the 210 GXL battery, 225 AGM and 195 GXL front terminal batteries, and a new branding scheme designed to clearly identify AlphaCell’s four key battery technologies now available.
The new 210 GXL batteries leverage several proven components of the 180 series, making it an ideal addition to the AlphaCell family. The new batteries provide an additional 30 minutes of runtime through innovative design improvements in the same battery case.
The proven long life grid design from the existing 180 GXL-HP and 180 GXL have been continued in the new 210 GXL-HP and 210 GXL-GEL to include large central power takeoff tabs, optimized tapered vertical wires, thicker frames, and thicker horizontal wires. Increased current collecting straps provide conductivity efficiency and exceptional electrical performance. The robust container and cover used for the new 210 series ensure minimal installation issues with existing battery enclosures.
Additional features include the improved U-Wrap separator technology that ensures product durability throughout float service life. The colloidal gel provides superior gel consistency in fill and dispersion, contributing to maximum utilization of active material.
The AlphaCell 195 GXL-FT is a new GEL chemistry front terminal battery offering. Two 36V strings fit inside the new PWE-6FT enclosure, maximizing backup time to support VoIP cable networks.
Alpha’s new AlphaCell 225 AGM-FT is designed for outdoor applications in more temperate northern climates. This new AGM battery is also designed to fit into Alpha’s PWE-6FT enclosure. A new labeling convention has been implemented across the AlphaCell family: Blue labels represent our Premium Gel GXL-HP with the silver alloy positive plates for extended life expectancy. Red labels represent our Gel GXL family rated for high temperature outdoor environments. Green labels represent our AGM offerings for moderate temperature outdoor and indoor environments. Gray labels represent our premium AGM-P with silver alloy positive plates for extended life in moderate to high temperature outdoor and indoor environments.
With this new branding scheme, the new labels have an area designated for technicians to record the date, the DC voltage and the Siemens Mhos readings after each test. Having developed an enviable record for reliability and performance in Alpha’s worldwide cable markets, the expanded AlphaCell line is making headway into new markets such as industrial, commercial and alternative energy.
