Argus recently expanded the Tempest series of outdoor enclosures to meet the demands of growing WiMax, utility and communication markets. These newest members to the Tempest family bring convenience, strength, and versatility to outdoor power system enclosures. The fully integrated modular design combines AC, DC, and backup battery power into one space.
The Tempest Te19 tower, the first tower in the series is geared toward telecom network powering and is also designed to meet a wide range of 12, 24 and 48VDC power and backup applications for WiMax and utility market requirements. “At 13 inches wide and 48 inches tall, the system is compact, and easy to install as either a wall or pole mount system” says Argus Product Manager, Doug Wicks, “The combination of features makes the Tempest tower a very effective solution for remote outdoor power applications.”
The Tempest Te19 tower is designed for a wide range of compact power and battery runtime requirements. With a NEMA 3R rating (IP55 rating option), this environmentally controlled tower is a compact, self contained outdoor power system that includes Argus’ Cordex CXCI controller, Cordex rectifiers and AlphaCell batteries. The AlphaCell 85 GXL standard gel battery is a sealed, maintenance free, VRLA battery with lead calcium grids for improved performance, longer runtimes and extended service life. The Cordex CXCI controller provides complete system monitoring and control via web browser either by a local or remote connection. All system parameters can be monitored and adjusted through a password protected web page.
The Tempest Te20 was designed as a versatile high power cabinet, providing power in expanding BTS (Base Transciever Stations) and UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service) equipment lineups or for new site builds. The Te20 is available in 24 or 48VDC and up to 1200A. This enclosure provides separate power equipment and battery/customer equipment compartments reducing overall air conditioning loads by cooling batteries and/or customer equipment only.
Air conditioning maintains long battery life and stable temperature conditions for customer equipment. Power equipment is environmentally hardened and will operate to 65°C (149°F) requiring only fan cooling to maintain stable operation in all ambient environment conditions. At up to 40kW of DC power, this combination of features provides the highest power rating, battery backup, and longest battery life available in a 30 inch square footprint.
Tempest enclosures are built with lightweight, durable aluminum construction that withstands severe environmental conditions and offers the ultimate protection for network and power equipment.
