Alpha provides backup power for the closed circuit television (CCTV) that captured images of the July 7th, 2005 London bombings.
Alpha won the contract to supply centralized 15 to 30 kVA UPS systems to backup CCTV equipment in ten major underground rail stations in London. These included Waterloo, Victoria, Euston, Kings Cross, Paddington, London Bridge, Charing Cross, Liverpool Cannon and Fenchurch Street.
The installations were completed in early June of 2005, and put to the test on July 7th with the London bombings. Alpha supplied the UPS systems to backup the CCTV network and video recording equipment that captured images of the terrorists. Following the explosions, the city underwent a severe, day long interruption of the city's transport and mobile telecommunications infrastructure. Alpha's UPS kept the CCTV cameras and video recording equipment powered, allowing the police to later review and track the terrorists' movements.
CCTV images showed the bombers buying tickets before they boarded a train to Kings Cross. Alpha's backup power equipment allowed the security cameras to record 6000 hours of CCTV footage. The fact that not a single minute of crucial footage was missed, enabled the London police investigators to identify four men whom they believe to be the suicide bombers. It is Alpha's reliable and qulaity products that made this happen.
Alpha's reputation for critical backup powering solutions was recognized when they were awarded a contract to supply four centralized UPS systems to support CCTV systems for the Kings Cross Station Underground rail redevelopment project. This project is the first step in taking backup powering solutions very seriously in the protection from, and investigation of, criminal acts. The UPS installations were completed earlier this year and Alpha is currently working on phase two of this groundbreaking project.
